Happy New Year!
We had a very low key (even more so than usual, if that's possible) NYE at home since we're still drowning in tissues over here, but I managed to get a couple festive photos of Ellie because you know I couldn't resist!
I bought the balloons a couple weeks ago when I wasn't envisioning having a sick family for NYE, but figured we might as well use them anyway. Plus, we got to enjoy our pancake breakfast in a small sea of them, which at least made me feel a little more in the spirit!
I don't really do resolutions in the way that I typically think of them, but I like to try to think of a few things that I'm going to work towards, accomplish or experience in the new year. Some are more significant, bigger, or more personal than others, but I wanted to share a few of the things I have in mind for 2016. Note: I'm very much supportive of taking care of yourself but no, they don't include a diet or exercising more - sorry, not sorry. If it happens, it happens but... Ice cream + donuts for life.
1.) Take more videos. This is going to require some significant cleaning out of my phone to make the extra space, but I always love looking back on videos even more so than any photos. There's just something special about being able to relive memories, and I wish I had taken more of Ells when she was just a teeny babe. I've been trying to take more lately (usually just to send to my parents + sister in our ongoing group text, or Tyler while he's at work), and have been uploading a few to Facebook if you care to take a peek!
2.) Be a fun mom. Making the everyday special for Ellie is a definite goal for me this year and every year going forward. To think she will be 20 months old at this time next year boggles my mind a bit, and we've got a ways to go before then, but I know she'll be a little bit older and able to appreciate all the fun things I have planned for us a little more this coming year. So, bring on the festive breakfasts, living room forts + kitchen dance parties!
3.) Unplug more + play. I'm constantly on my phone and would like to cut back a bit - I don't want Ellie's memories of us to be with a phone glued to my hands (okay, so she might not actually have memories from 2016, but you know what I mean). Also, just taking more time to have fun is a goal of mine. Playing is essential for a healthy life, little and big kids alike! ;)
4.) Be present. This kind of goes hand in hand with number three, but I am a planner by nature and am always looking at the next thing down the road. I'm not necessarily looking to ditch the planner in me because it's something I enjoy, I'd just like to take more time to enjoy what's happening right in front of me, too.
5.) Declutter + decorate. I've been trying to declutter our house a little but they're is still quite a bit of "stuff" e v e r y w h e r e. Also, while we don't plan to stay in this house much longer, I'd still like to decorate a bit more as long as they're things we can take with us to the new house! Adding a personal touch (and maybe a little more color?!) just makes a house feel more homey. We spend a lot of time within these four walls - why not make it ours? :)
Do you have any special goals for the new year? I'm looking forward to coloring our blank 2016 slate beautiful! The best is yet to come.
