Happy Friday and Happy July 1st! :) Today happens to be my birthday eve... which, contrary to my husband's eye roll whenever I say it, is totally a real thing. It's the last day of another fabulous year and I'm so ready to start a brand new, exciting chapter tomorrow morning. Lots of hopes + dreams for my twenty-seventh year, and Ellie + I have already agreed on a mutual birthday candle wish! ;)
I'm just shy of being able to say I have another year of learning under my belt, so I thought I'd share some things that this life has taught me thus far. There are obviously a ton of thoughts, facts, opinions, etc. that I could be sharing today, but here are some completely random (a little bit cliche but 100% true) things I've learned as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, co-worker, and of course an individual:
.) Count your blessings every day. Give thanks every night and you'll begin + end your days with a grateful heart.
.) Never underestimate the healing power of a pet. Sometimes friends who can't talk are the best kind of friends.
.) It's totally possible to meet your husband at fourteen years old. It's also okay to ask your future husband to be your boyfriend via AIM conversation when you're fourteen years old.
.) Becoming a parent makes you appreciate your own parents tenfold. There are not enough "thank you's" in the universe.
.) Money can't buy happiness, but not having money doesn't make you happy either. So, be sure to save a few pennies here and there.
.) Take small steps out of your comfort zone every once in awhile. You'll be amazed at what you can do.
.) Always, always, always take your make-up off before bed. Also, floss your teeth every day. Personal hygiene is so important.
.) Bloom where you are planted, even if it's not exactly the flower bed you pictured yourself planted in.
.) You're never too old to act like a kid. Don't ever stop playing!
.) Don't compare yourself to others, you'll lose sight of all the things you have to be grateful for.
.) Happy girls really are the prettiest girls. When's the last time you admired someone who was completely miserable?
.) Sisters are priceless + friends for a lifetime, but having a built-in best friend for life doesn't mean you should ever take that friendship for granted.
.) Being a parent can be one of the scariest things ever for many reasons (namely being fully responsible for another human's life), but no one tells you how scary it will be to cut those tiny fingernails for the first time.
.) Traveling the world might be awesome, but there is truly no place like home. Homebody for life over here.
.) Dress for your body, regardless of the size on the tag. You will look and feel so much better.
.) Always think of mornings as a fresh start + blank slate. It'll help you get out of bed, even after the longest of nights.
.) Never be afraid to ask questions.
.) There is no such thing as having too much patience.
.) Being a mom is the most challenging, most rewarding job ever. You will love your children so much that is hurts, and it is quite possibly the best feeling in the world.
.) Celebrate the little things in life, it makes you appreciate them even more.
.) Happiness is a choice and not something that is going to be handed to you. Work hard at creating a life that you love and do it with a smile on your face.
.) Never have regrets. Everything happens for a reason, even if you don't understand the reasoning at first (or ever).
.) Take a chance and lick the bowl, especially if said bowl has Tollhouse chocolate chip cookie dough in it.
.) Trust your instincts.
.) Dance like nobody's watching - figuratively and literally... especially in the kitchen with your baby + best friend by your side.
.) Be inspired by others but always be true to yourself. Being original is much cooler than being exactly like someone else.
.) The best learning doesn't come from books. Life has a funny way of teaching you lessons along the way, sometimes when you least expect it. Embrace them and never stop taking it all in.
Here's to another year of love + learning ahead! XO
